interstellar.

It's been a while since my last diy-ish project. But last weekend I tried something new. I always wanted to have a Galaxy Shirt like these, for example, but thought, there must be a cheap way to do it myself, and so I researched the web for several tutorials and then bought the necessary equipment to try it out. Here are some pictures of the process, and I think it turned out quite nice, but especially the blue color could have been stronger. (It's actually paler in reality than on the pictures with the camera filters). Maybe I'll add more color in the next days. I also thought about spicing it up with some glitter or fluorescing color, we'll see!

First I sprayed the shirt with bleach so it turned from black to orange on the chosen spots.

Then I let it dry and added some blue batic color. I needed two attemps for the color to stay on the shirt. I dunno if the bleach kept the dye from staying on the shirt, maybe?!

The result! I really like the gradation of the colors where it turns from blue to orange. What I don't like are the spots you can see, especially on the blue part. These happened by accident, because the bleach somehow kept dropping out of the spray bottle. I even added more bleach on these parts, but the spots just wouldn't disappear. :( Also, I kinda ruined the back part where the bleach transpired. I used a plastic bag to prevent this from happening, but it didn't work when I added the bleach for the second time. Maybe I can paint it over with some black fabric pen.

And here's me wearing the shirt 90ies style. ;) (I remember I used to wear belly tees when I was twelve or so...today it would probably take 3 glasses of wine to dare..)

danse macabre.

ever since i've known the the tradition of halloween, i always wanted to disguise and walk around at night and celebrate. the fact that this day also happens to be my birthday makes it even more special. but this tradition only slowly slopped over to german realms, so halloween parties and costumes over here were always kind of lame to me and no one out of my circle of friends ever really felt the same fascination to join and celebrate. but! this year i found my halloween soulmate and right now i am already making plans for a costume. first i thought about dressing as a certain well known character, but i couldn't decide out of too many options, so i made some researches on the web and stumbled upon the term DIA DE LOS MUERTOS. i really love everything about the style and its possible to be a lot more creative and adjustable than with having chosen a certain character. so DIA DE LOS MUERTOS basically is a mexican tradition, celebrated from 31st of october to 2nd of november, similar to the halloween tradition and it looks like this:

so there is about one month time to plan and i already got some ideas. if everything works out as i imagine it, it's going to be awesome!

borealis.

as promised, here are the results of the dyeing experiment. the scarf actually turned out to be the best result, when it actually looked crappy while it was still wet.

afterwards i found out, i would've needed to put a wet fabric into the colorbucket (instead of a dry one, like it did. stupid me, never reading the instructions thoroughly) this would probably have brought the gradient coloring. meh. i still like the result, though, but i'll probably start a 2nd attempt soon with some dark blue or lavender color.

for anyone who would like to try it on their own, i link you to a very good tutorial.

moana.

currently i am very much into the dipdye trend. whether it's hair or clothing. unfortunately my hair isn't as long as this seen on the pictures below, so i won't even try to do it with my head.

but i am very excited about trying to dye some of my clothes. i already bought batic color (teal green) this week and i only need a vessel in which i can store the dying liquid. i most certainly will share the results with you unless i don't ruin it!
